The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch – the world’s biggest wildlife survey – returns on January 27th – 29th and Hillview Garden Stores are encouraging customers to get their gardens ready for our feathered friends.
All of their stores have an extensive range of bird care products to choose from – ranging from bird feeders, nest boxes to high-energy, nutritious and tasty bird foods. Sunflower hearts, Nyjer seed, suet fat balls and mealworms can all help to draw different species to visit our gardens and make them a more interesting and colourful place through the winter.
More than half a million people across the UK are expected to watch and count their garden birds over the weekend. The Birdwatch involves spending an hour watching and counting the birds that visit your outdoor space, before sending the results to the RSPB. Last year, more than 8 million birds were spotted in UK gardens with the house sparrow, starling and blackbird making up the top three.
The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is a great family activity to get involved in and get children engaged with nature. The cold, winter weather brings birds into our gardens seeking food and shelter so it is important to put food and water out for them to keep them happy and healthy.
To bring colour and scent into your winter garden, as well as birds, the stores also have a great choice of stunning winter colour plants and potted spring bulbs guaranteed to brighten up your patios and flower borders.
