Summer style with a social conscience

For design-led furniture that makes a difference to more than just your garden or balcony, look no further than the LifestyleGarden® Nassau range powered by Social Plastic®. This game-changing collection is where Scandi chic meets ethical consumerism, thanks to a unique ethically-sourced recycled material that directly tackles the plastic pollution crisis, whilst helping to lift people out of poverty. This is stylish furniture that really makes an impact!

The ground-breaking range, launched last year, was the result of a collaboration between LifestyleGarden®, the Eden Project, and social enterprise PlasticBank, to create a striking collection of furniture that puts the environment and global communities first.

A stylish choice

The Nassau range, powered by Social Plastic®, harnesses the simple, elegant style of Scandinavian design, with modern clean lines and a stunning palette of pure white or vibrant pastels set against the warm wood tones of FSC® Eucalyptus. This is a fresh, urban design that effortlessly transforms any indoor or outdoor space, with the added benefit of extreme durability and weather resistance.

The beautiful colourways – including on-trend shades of pink and green – won’t fade, thanks to excellent UV stability, and you don’t have to worry about cracking or splitting, as this innovative recycled material is made to last and can withstand anything the British climate throws at it.

Even better, Social Plastic® is completely maintenance free. Just use a little soap and water to take off any dirt and you’re good to go! Available as bistro sets, coffee sets and four or six-seater dining sets in White, Peony Pink, Sage Green and Honey Yellow.

A smarter choice

Of course, aesthetics and performance are important and remain at the heart of all of LifestyleGarden®’s collections, but the launch of Nassau powered by Social Plastic® and endorsed by the Eden Project truly heralded a new era for furniture design: with social and environmental purpose at its core.

We are all aware that plastic waste is still an enormous threat to our planet, wildlife and communities in developing countries but did you know that as much as one rubbish truck full of plastic enters the oceans every single minute? Meanwhile, the West still exports its plastic waste to other parts of the world that lack the infrastructure to recycle these materials.

The reason Nassau powered by Social Plastic® is such as game changer is because it sees LifestyleGarden® tackling the issue head on by partnering with PlasticBank, who works to empower communities in the parts of the world most affected by plastic waste via its ethical recycling centres.

Nassau furniture is created from discarded plastic that has been gathered from shorelines in countries like Indonesia, Brazil, the Phillipines and Egypt. The unique concept gives plastic waste value, which means local members can exchange what they collect for premiums to purchase essentials, like cooking fuel, groceries, health insurance and school tuition.

Every Nassau chair is made from the equivalent of 175 recycled plastic bottles, whilst the manufacturing process effects real change in the lives of people in vulnerable coastal communities by removing rubbish from their natural environment and providing families with a steady income.

It also means waste materials are re-introduced into the supply chain to create exciting new products; reducing pollution, saving energy, and preserving resources. Nassau furniture is then completely recyclable again at the end of its life, helping to support a circular economy!

With demand for virgin single-use plastic growing at more than 2.5% between 2019 and 2021 and then generating more than 15 times more plastic waste than is created through recycled feedstocks, it’s time to make smarter choices.

LifestyleGarden® proudly collaborated with the Eden Project to bring this range to market and wanted to work with Plastic Bank to “turn plastic problems into plastic positives”. In turn, the award-winning Nassau collection, powered by Social Plastic® is already making waves and has the ability to help make both the world and your outdoor space a better place!
