Pets at Glee exhibitors, Butcher’s Pet Care, has been making nutritious and delicious recipes for dogs for over 30 years now. But as part of the company’s commitment to keep dogs as happy and healthy as possible, the company have also taken full responsibility for the impact its packaging can have on the environment. Butcher’s has taken crucial steps towards using more sustainable materials, and in turn helping their customers to recycle.
Over the last year, Butcher’s removed the plastic shrink-wrap packaging from their can multi-packs and replaced with recyclable and biodegradable cardboard. Its new boxes are the first of their kind in the pet care market to be manufactured in the UK and could save up to 92 tonnes of plastic wrap per year. That’s equivalent to 4.2 million plastic bottles! What’s more, Butcher’s has taken the extra step to ensure that the cardboard they use is sourced from managed sustainable forests, where harvested trees are always replanted.
However, the journey didn’t just stop there – all the steel cans and 150g trays in production are plastic-free and 100% recyclable too. These metals can be easily and sustainably turned into new materials like car parts, bicycles or even airplanes.
Butcher’s aren’t just focusing on eco-friendly measures in their product range. Its head office and manufacturing plant are both energy efficient. All rainwater is collected from the roof and used to power the loos, and they harness solar energy with solar panels on the roof.
Butcher’s is clearly making huge steps to support the environment, and whilst the company recognise that there’s still much to do, they are leading the way on a quest for a plastic free future.
Retailers wanting to find out more can visit the company’s stand at the forthcoming Pets at Glee show, part of the annual Glee exhibition (10th – 12th September, NEC Birmingham). The Butcher’s team can be found in Hall 19, stand S36.
