Offering gardeners a completely new way to grow hydrangeas, it’s not hard to see how the new Groundbreaker® is grabbing the attention of some of the leading voices and experts in the horticulture and gardening community.
As the world’s first ground cover panicle hydrangea, Groundbreaker® combines a naturally compact growth habit with abundant, colourful blooms and an exceptionally long flowering season-bringing a true hydrangea revolution to the garden.
Growing to just 40cm in height and 70-cm in width, Groundbreaker® remains wonderfully compact, making it ideal for covering larger areas and creating elegant borders around garden beds. At the same time, its unique appearance also makes it a stunning feature in containers on patios and balconies.
With its excellent winter hardiness down to –30°C (–22°F), Groundbreaker® also remains a reliable garden feature throughout the colder months. Pruning is only required in February, meaning that the plant’s woody structure can provide valuable shelter for insects and other small garden inhabitants during winter.
Available in the three varieties in three varieties, Ruby™, Blush™ and Greeny™, Groundbreaker® offers the perfect colour choice for every garden style. Its dense flower heads, which appear from July – September and provide up to 100 days of flowering are guaranteed to attract attention.
With its second-place award at the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year 2026, Hydrangea paniculata ‘Groundbreaker Ruby’ has gained international recognition as an exceptional new variety. Its flowers begin white before gradually transforming into a rich red as summer progresses, meaning the plant itself changes character as the season moves on.
For something softer, Blush™ moves from white through delicate pink-red tones, while Greeny™ retains its fresh green flowers throughout its flowering period.
Groundbreaker® represents a new approach to gardening: less effort, greater longevity and a consistently attractive appearance. This innovative ground cover panicle hydrangea not only impresses visually but also makes everyday gardening easier while adding diversity and beauty to outdoor spaces.
