Due to the nature of representing some of the leading gardening gift manufacturers, Christmas has been on our minds since early summer. But our involvement in publicity for Burford House Garden Store’s Holly and Mistletoe Auctions this week really brought that Christmas feeling home. The Tenbury Wells store, one of 11 garden centres belonging to client Hillview Garden Stores, hosts the world-famous auction in the run up to Christmas. Mistletoe has a historic connection to Tenbury, growing in abundance around in the orchards in the town, and is the largest auction of its kind in the UK.
This meant dealing with a lot of regional media enquiries – including three BBC radio stations (Hereford and Worcester, Shropshire, Coventry and Warwick) all performing live broadcasts from the auctions. For BBC West Midlands in particular, the special breakfast show feature proved so popular that they have since arranged to attend the second auction with cameras – but more on that next week…
The PR for Garden Re-Leaf has started, the challenge of course being to get the garden industry involved as early as possible and to promote awareness of Greenfingers’ charity work creating much needed gardens for children’s hospices. Once again, the popular Garden Re-Leaf Day Walk will take place and is open for entries – click here to sign up. Starting and finishing at Wyevale’s World’s End Garden Centre, Buckinghamshire, there will once again be two routes available this year. You can either take a gentle 10 mile stroll, or complete a more challenging 20 mile route through the Chilterns. The popular Plant-athon will return with Greenfingers calling for garden retailers across the country to pot up as many plants as possible. Thankfully this year the time frame to plant as many pots as possible will be 12 hours – a significant improvement (says our PR Manager Robbie who took part last year) – on the 24 hours format of the past two years! To sign up or register your own event, please do not hesitate to visit the Garden Re-Leaf page, it’s an unmissable day in the garden industry calendar and can be great fun!
As we brace ourselves for the cold winter weather, we have been working with our automotive clients Lumag highlighting potential brake problems during the winter months and how it is important to ensure that brake pads are up to the job.
Some HWPR team news – Kimberley is busy planning with clients for next year, and once more attending the always enjoyable IAAF dinner. Robbie’s busy setting up our new YouTube channel from his mobile boat home office – currently moored at Lincoln marina for the winter. And aside from managing the holly and mistletoe auction coverage, Cassie is understandably bracing herself for her first Hornby Whitefoot PR Christmas party outing next week!
