Harrison Clark Rickerbys – helping the hungry this Christmas

L-R Hannah Wainwright, Oliver Hunt, Hailey Nip, Thomas Coe, Daniel GodfreyStaff at the Hereford office of leading law firm, Harrison Clark Rickerbys, have been generously making donations of non-perishable food items to support Hereford food bank this December.

Headed up by the firm’s Paralegal and Trainee (PT) group, the food-collection drive took place between 1st – 12th December 2014. Staff across the firm’s four Three Counties’ offices in Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Worcester and Cheltenham, were encouraged to make donations to help families who are struggling financially in the Three Counties have sufficient to eat this Christmas. Donations including tinned beans, soups and vegetables, as well as essentials such as rice, pasta, teabags, coffee, sugar and cereals have all been piled high.

Jackie Allsop, Coordinator at Hereford food bank, commented; “From January until the end of November 2014 the food bank in Hereford has fed 2239 people, 700 of which were children. We require the donations to make that possible. We are open 5 days a week and base the donations to people on referrals from those such as teachers, social workers and doctors. The referrers know the circumstances and the food bank provide emergency food packages for those in need. The food packages are for 7 days’ worth of food. We also provide items such as tins and packaged goods together with fresh items. Money donated to the food bank enables us to purchase items such as milk, eggs and bread to give to people and we have home grown donations from people’s allotments and gardens. We have chutney and jam making sessions when we have left over apples and other fruits, so nothing goes to waste.”

Rachael Wheeler, a Paralegal who headed up the campaign in Hereford, added; “Last year food banks in the UK helped to feed over 150,000 people, so we know our donations will make a real difference. We feel that it is very important that we give back to the communities within which we operate so hopefully our donations will go some way to helping those in need in Herefordshire this Christmas. On behalf of the PT group, I would like to thank all of our staff who made such generous donations.”
