Classic cars and clematis revival at Burford House

Burford House Garden Store in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, held its second annual Motor Show last Sunday (6th August) at Burford House, which saw hundreds of visitors come to the gardens to see over 80 vintage cars.

Visitors were treated to a wide range of different cars including a rare 1934 Austin Seven Special, a Lagonda, a Rolls Royce Ghost Tourer and a Sunbeam Rapier.  A number of Jaguars, TVRs, and a whole host of classic MGs all made their home for one day only with the backdrop of the popular Georgian stately home, whilst the stunning gardens were also open for free tours making the event even more spectacular.

The cars, all lovingly restored and maintained, provided the perfect accompaniment for Burford’s renowned collection of clematis. Visitors were treated to free tours by the Burford House Garden Angels; a group of volunteers who lovingly tend to the gardens and grounds in their spare time.  Visitors learned that a National Clematis Collection was once displayed within the four-acre gardens, and that more recently the gardens have been revived to their former glory by the Angels themselves, who planted over three hundred clematis plants chosen from over a hundred different varieties.

Burford House Garden Store manager Paul Benson, said: “The motor show was once again a big hit, the weather was kind and we had plenty of people not only looking at the impressive selection of classic cars – but also venturing through the house and into the gardens, spending time enjoying the clematis.  So many have expressed interest in growing their own varieties – particularly clematis Mikelite and clematis Blue Sensation – within their own gardens, so we’ve decided to go back to our roots and grow clematis on site for customers to pick up from the store.”

Clematis Mikelite and Blue Sensation are both available from Burford House Garden Store in four litre pots, priced at £14.99 each.  Visit https://www.gardenstoreonline.co.uk/static/Burford-house.html for more details, or contact the store direct by calling 01584 810777 or emailing enquiries@gardenstoreonline.co.uk

Entry to the Burford House gardens is free, and any visitor donations are greatly appreciated. All donations go to Greenfingers, a charity that creates magical gardens at children’s hospices across the UK.

Plans for next year’s motor show (Sunday 5th August 2018) are already underway, and if you are interested in registering your vehicle please email enquiries@gardenstoreonline.co.uk.
